Innovative Technologies
Dr Hodge has patented and developed a number of surgical devices and instruments to make surgery easier and more efficient. He has been teaching and educating surgeons on these methods and skills around the world for several years. He participates in national and regional meetings in many countries with ‘Live Surgery’ demonstrations as well as ‘Surgical Skills’ workshops. He also will do visits to local hospitals to participate in various procedures. Dr. Hodge also makes himself available to surgeons through live video conferencing.
New Surgical Techniques
Dr Hodge is available to demonstrate the use of new surgical products and techniques through a variety of venues, including one-on-one at a surgeon’s hospital, as well as local and regional cadaver workshops. He also will demonstrate and teach these new surgical techniques at local, regional and national meetings in various countries with appropriate translation.
Medical Tourism for Professionals
Dr. Hodge has been involved in expediting Medical Tourism since the mid-199os when he began to traveling and working in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East. For many years he has been bringing complex patients to the correct doctors and convincing specialized doctors to travel to countries where they are needed.
He saw that there was a need for both foreign patients traveling to US Centers where the surgical experts had access to the advanced technology and the experienced surgical teams to do the more complex cases as well as bringing specialized surgeons into international environments where ‘Centers of Excellence’ (COE) could be implemented with existing hospitals in these countries.
Dr Hodge would evaluate complex cases either electronically or in person and decide the best centers to treat them. With his extensive experience in implementing Centers of Excellence (COEs) in the Middle East, he began to put facilities in place at several hospitals in Riyadh, KSA and later in the UAE in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah.
In 2005, Dr. Hodge founded American Surgeons International which organized surgeons from the US and Europe to travel to the Middle East. In 2017, he helped build the program at RAK Hospital for bringing medical tourist from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. According to 2016 statistics, there are currently about 11 million medical tourists yearly with spending greater than $440 million.
