Telecasting interactive ‘live surgery’ from the operating room has become much easier in today’s world. At Massachusetts General Hospital, they have preserved the original operating ‘theater,’ known as the ‘Ether Dome’ where the first surgeries were performed under ‘ether’ anesthesia. This theater was built with a stage in the center surrounded by steep rows of seats where other surgeons and student would observe. Dr Hodge would operate in one of the sixty operating rooms at MGH which was fully wired for sound and video. Now his surgery can be broadcast from many international hospitals’ A/V equipped ORs. Virtual and Augmented Reality options can now be used enhance the training experience.
