About Dr. William Andrew Hodge
Dr Hodge is an internationally acclaimed orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and hip surgery and bioengineering research. He holds several U.S. patents on orthopedic implants & surgical techniques, and also has published over 60 articles in prominent medical journals. Dr. Hodge has been recognized for his accomplishments on CNN News, the Discovery Channel, and Science Magazine. He was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for Medicine 2009 for his international surgical contributions (This award has been given to six U.S. Presidents as well as multiple Nobel Prize winners).
During Dr. Hodge’s decade of time spent in Boston’s academic environment, he maintained appointments at Harvard University, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He designed and directed MGH’s BioMotion Research Laboratory for studying human motion and rehabilitation. Dr. Hodge then co-founded Palm Beach Orthopedic Institute & The Institute for Mobility and Longevity (www.institue-mobility-longevity.org), a non-profit organization that supports orthopedic research and education now located in Southwest Florida. He has also served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at several centers in the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Dr Hodge recently completed his MBA Degree in Healthcare Policy at Boston’s Brandeis University.
Dr. Hodge has relocated to Southwest Florida, now in the Ft. Myers/Tampa region, where he is bringing new treatments and technologies to patients with arthritis, failed joint replacement, and other orthopedic conditions common in the region. Dr Hodge is also active in Rehabilitation Science and Regenerative Medicine which can prevent or postpone surgical intervention.
Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr. Hodge has contributed to orthopedic innovation through board leadership, advisory roles, implant design, and collaboration with medical technology companies.

He has been on staff at leading engineering and research institutions, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Arizona State University, University of Florida, University of South Florida, and the University of Maine.
Patented Orthopedic Innovations
Dr. Hodge has developed and patented several orthopedic implant innovations, including the 3DKnee™ high-flexion total knee replacement system, which was designed and patented after a decade of research and has been implanted globally. He has also been active in improving hip replacement implants, with multiple patents reflecting innovative hip implant concepts.
Many companies have worked with Dr. Hodge in product development and differentiation, particularly in hip and knee replacement systems and research-driven surgical innovation. His patented orthopedic designs are positioned for scalable manufacturing and clinical use, creating opportunities for medical device licensing, manufacturer collaboration, and product development partnerships with companies seeking clinically informed, patented orthopedic technologies.

Dr Hodge has patented and developed a number of surgical devices and instruments to make surgery easier and more efficient. He has been teaching and educating surgeons on these methods and skills around the world for several years. He participates in national and regional meetings in many countries with ‘Live Surgery’ demonstrations as well as ‘Surgical Skills’ workshops. He also will do visits to local hospitals to participate in various procedures. Dr. Hodge also makes himself available to surgeons through live video conferencing.
